In the spirit of ‘a challenge to big to handle on my own‘, I’ll be needing lots of help, if this ride is ever going to happen. There are lots of different ways you can contribute, see some of the possibilities below, or suggest something else you can offer.
But most importantly, I need your encouragement – keep me motivated, and help spread the word about the challenge, and about Samaritans.
Help spread the word
- Sign up to follow the blog (use the box on the right) and twitter account , and share with your friends and family.
- Once the schedule is fixed, contact your local media, to let them know when I’ll be passing through your area and help raise awareness for Samaritans
- Sponsor us to support Samaritans
Help with the cycling
- Sign up to RIDE WITH ME! My tandem won’t be going anywhere without companions to help me pedal. No previous tandem experience required, just a pair of legs and a sense of adventure.
- Offer advice on tandems, and/or lend, sell or donate a suitable tandem for the ride
- Offer advice on planning a safe and efficient LEJOG route.
- Ride bits of the proposed route for me in advance, to check traffic, road/path conditions, safety, diversions etc.
- Lend or donate kit, e.g. a bike satnav, bike tools, spare parts
- Teach me some bike maintenance skills
- Come for walks and bike rides with me, to help me train
- Ride alongside on your own bike when I pass through your area, to help us navigate and keep us company
Help with logistics
- Offer me and my two support drivers food, or your spare room or sofabed, as we pass through your area. I’m hoping to keep costs as low as possible, since I’m covering costs myself and all donated sponsorship is going straight to Samaritans
- Help my tandem riders get to and from their start and end points for each stage of the route
- Be a local point-of-contact for media enquiries, and help project-manage the local logistics – accommodation, scheduling etc.
